About me

My name’s Will, I’m a writer and a marketer, and since 2008 I’ve lived in Brighton. I love it here; Brighton is one of the UK’s hubs for new media and everything digital. The fact that it’s bubbling with creativity and new ideas is all part of what makes it, for me, a great place to live and work.

After four years working in various jobs (but with a consistent lean towards digital marketing) I came to realise that many people and companies out there still haven’t got to grips with how to do digital right.

What has increasingly frustrated me is that many of the blogs and articles intended to support people are highly theoretical; they’re written by ‘gurus’ and ‘thought leaders’ (both terms I believe marketers should avoid using at all costs) who have marketing qualifications and PhDs.

What we need are some practical tips that are accessible to everyone.

It’s time people started sharing their opinions. Many of these ‘theoretical’ marketers don’t… maybe they don’t want to offend people. But offending people is what marketing has built itself upon, and is exactly how digital media grows.

Offence Taken is about getting back to basics. I’m not a ‘guru’, I’m just a writer who happens to be interested in digital media and how people’s perceptions effect brand and the progression of change. I don’t have a marketing qualification, but what I do have is a lot of practical experience and plenty of opinions; based on my own experience of what works and what doesn’t. I’ve used my skills to promote the companies I’ve worked for, and to promote my own writing. And whether you’re an organisation or an individual, it would be nice to think I’m helping you too.

Great post, I couldn’t agree with you more. Interestingly I think we have very similar backgrounds and on my own blog does reflect that 🙂 Cheers and all the best in your endeavour!
